O’Donnell’s On the Spot Repair was started in 1988 out of the trunk of a 1979 Ford Fairmont. It grew quickly to become the premier fleet repair shop in Lansing. Along with the growth in fleet business came the demand for car repair as well. It was a natural fit. In 1994, Matt opened his South Lansing shop primarily focusing on auto repair. In 2001, he opened the shop at Waverly Shell in West Lansing. It now belongs to his son Robert, and is enjoyed by many loyal customers. In 2014, Matt began the construction of a heavy truck repair center at this Pennsylvania location. Over the years, O’Donnell’s has fixed all kinds of automotive and industrial items.

    Robert O'Donnell

Matt's Story

Matt O’Donnell is a native of Michigan, born in the city of Mason in 1956. During his high school years, he attended Capital Area Career Center, where he studied small engines, welding and machine shop. Utilizing his automotive experience and the skills he learned at Career Center, Matt started On the Spot Repair, Inc. (insert website address) in 1988. His reputation for coming to the rescue, with his mobile repair fleet services, helped form the high standards of the O’Donnell’s Auto & Truck Repair brand.

Matt knows cars inside and out, as a driver and a mechanic. When he’s not repairing them, he enjoys racing several types of vehicles. Motorcycle racing, drag car racing, and road racing with sports cars are some of the competitions in which Matt likes to participate. Matt expanded this successful family business by opening his shop at Waverly in 2001, which is being run by his son Ray. He has three adult children and one school age child. In 2004, Matt married his best friend, Julie Granger, and currently resides in Grand Ledge, MI. An experienced motorcycle enthusiast, he is a life member of Lansing Motorcycle Club and Portland Trail Riders. Matt has attained an ASA master tech’s certification in Auto and Truck repair, and is state certified in all repair categories for diesel and auto repair.

Robert's Story

Robert is Matt's son and he is also the owner of O'Donnell's Repair West, Inc. He has worked over 20 years in several capacities within the automotive industry and over a decade as a shop manager. He is an expert in his field and is an ASE Certified Service Writer and a Michigan State Certified Mechanic.

Robert has his roots in Michigan. He attended Michigan State University and graduated with a B.A. in Business. He also received his Associates Degree from Northwestern Michigan College. All his life, Robert has had a passion for motorcycling, sports, and any type of adventure. When he is not at work, Robert also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Whether you reach us by a walk-in, phone call, email, or online message, we are happy to talk about how we can help you. We’ll discuss the problem, how we can fix it, how long it should take, offer a rough estimate, establish your expectations and timeline, and introduce our business and process.


Initial Test & Diagnostics

When you bring your car in, we use a holistic approach. You’ll meet the service writer, our technicians will take your vehicle for a test drive, and then we put it on the hoist to do a bumper to bumper visual inspection. Before performing any service, we will also use the latest diagnostic equipment to help determine the cause of the problem at give you an estimate of the cost.

Service Preparation

Our technicians and service writers will explain in easy terms the parts and labor needed to get the job done. We will make service recommendations in the interest of your peace of mind, but we will only fix what you authorize us to fix. Our team will also help you prioritize your vehicle’s services based on your needs.


Vehicle Repair

Once service is authorized by you, our certified technicians will begin the repair. Your vehicle will always be our priority, and you will never see your vehicle just sitting around waiting to be serviced. If requested, we are happy to take pictures/videos of the malfunction and we will save the old parts for you to view at any point.

Final Test Drive

After our vehicle repairs are finished, it’s time to take the vehicle out for a second test drive. The second test drive is our personal confirmation of a job well done, before we hand the keys back.


Clean Up

When we promise to send you and your car away in better condition than we found it, that means cleanliness as well. We take pride in our work, and will go the extra mile to be sure not to leave our “mechanic’s marks” when we’re done.

Check Out

Once your vehicle is ready, we will call, text, or email you letting you know the job is done. We will review the work done and remind you of any future repairs that may be needed. Please share any questions or concerns with us at check out - your smiling face at the end of service is our goal!


The Follow Up

About a week after service, we will give you a call to see how your vehicle is doing since its repair. We’ll also schedule any future maintenance to help keep your vehicle running smoothly. Keep in mind, it’s never too late to tell us about your experience - feel free to leave your feedback via email, social media, or an online review.
